UKAEA RACE visit

OC Robotics has taken a MiniX snake-arm robot to RACE, part of UKAEA, to demonstrate the potential applications of robot technologies for the future of the clean energy industry. Fusion power comes with many challenges including safe inspection and maintenance of the high radiation plasma chamber without human access, which reaches temperatures 10 times hotter than the center of the sun.

RACE works to solve these challenges, conducting trials and studies with current robotic technologies in order to inform future designs of both the reactors and inspection & maintenance tools of the future. OC Robotics demonstrated multi degree-of-freedom snake arm robots in combination with other robot platforms, to show the benefits of remote handling technologies within confined spaces.
