OC Robotics is the lead partner in a DTI Technology Programme project entitled "Snake Skin".
The £900k grant is shared with Airbus, Remotec and Swisstulle.
The project is to develop an intelligent "skin" for snake-arm robots that will not only provide a barrier between the arm and the environment, but will also have the ability to sense the presence of obstacles by touch or proximity. Other capabilities will be explored, including the measurement and control of temperature, the sensing of chemicals, and any environmental changes that are relevant to the end user.
