Portable

Standard flexible endoscopes - also known as borescopes or video scopes, each having a long flexible body with a steerable tip - suffer from a lack of control and a reliance on the environment to support the body of the device. This means that flexible scopes cannot bridge large horizontal gaps and cannot advance around multiple corners - a flexible endoscope needs a rigid environment to force it around the corners.

Portable snake-arm robots do not need support from the environment, they are self-supporting, and are steerable along their entire length. This means that they can navigate through an open space, avoiding obstacles, carrying tools and conducting work.

We are currently developing portable snake-arm robots to go beyond existing endoscope technology. Portable snake-arm robots are suitable for both security and industrial applications and will provide a self contained unit that can be quickly mounted on any appropriate surface and controlled by means of an easy to use joystick interface.

OC Robotics has delivered two portable snake-arm robots to the US Department of Defense. Read our press release: "OC Robotics delivers 1/2" diameter snake-arm robot".
