Rob Buckingham, co-founder director of Bristol based OC Robotics, is to head-up a new centre for Remote Handling within Culham Laboratories. Based near his home in Oxford, Culham Laboratories was also Rob’s workplace for part of his early career.
Culham Laboratories is a government-funded organisation; Culham’s board has created the new unit to steer the drive for remote handling for hazardous environments within the UK and beyond, with particular emphasis on nuclear fusion. Culham has identified Rob as the best person for the lead role.
Craig Wilson, Managing Director of OC Robotics says “The board and the team at OC Robotics wish Rob all the best for the future; he has been a significant member of the team and will be missed. We look forward to working alongside him in his new role and to his continued influence on UK robotics. Rob has championed snake-arm robotics for over 15 years.”
Rob Buckingham says “OC Robotics has been my life for the last 15 years and the business is in a great position to take the next step in its growth. I’m pleased the board recruited Craig as the MD for his wider business experience and I’m looking forward to working with OC Robotics in the years to come.”
Rob will remain part of the OC Robotics team during 2014 to support the continued successful development of the business.
Andy Graham, co-founder and Technical Director since founding the company with Rob in 1997, will continue in his role leading OC Robotics’ engineering with the support of the newly established senior management team and growing engineering team.
Andy says “OC Robotics is the world leader in commercial snake-arm robotics and we have achieved tremendous success developing the technology since we started work in the field. We’ve funded the R&D through a combination of re-invested profit, start-up capital and grant funding. We have an outstanding team of engineering problem solvers and are ready to develop wider commercial markets for our products. I look forward to the next phase of the company’s growth and success.”
Business development will be headed up by Craig Wilson, together with Andy Graham supported by a highly skilled team of three.
